Woodhall Spa

Walking – The Viking Way

With the end if the summer camping season rapidly approaching, and with the next two weekends booked with a server change over for a client, I have planned a short backing trip to the regular Camping and Caravan Club site near Woodhall Spa using the Viking Way.

This is also a busy weekend as I have to finish a proposal for a client to provide an integrated email solution between an office in the UK and locations in Southern Africa both in the cities and in more remote places – so using our cloud server I am planning to work that this evening on my iPhone.

This sign is not as accurate as it could be – it looks like the path follows the line of the hedge, when actually the path is marked and heads across the middle of the field.

the sign is at the junction shown in the map clip as you approach the abbey ruins from Fiskerton

the path is very distinct when looking back

The pitch by the lake edge had been cleared of the fallen tree that was there on my previous visit – so I could again pitch in among the trees close to the water.

The weather today was bright and sunny which gave me a chance to air my down sleeping bag over my tent whilst I was having breakfast. My rucksack was not a light as it could have been this time, as I added the luxury of a small folding stool to the load.

Diana and i have been working today on the Branston Business Network stand at the Big Tea Party in Branston. Once we had packed up I got Diana to drop me a few miles away from the Woodhall Spa campsite so I could walk in the last bit and camp out over night. After last weekend it seemed a pity to waste a good weekend and not go backpacking.
