With the variable weather I walked out to Mount Famine and then back to the campsite via Hayfield village.

I was being severely buffeted by the wind whilst I was making this panoramic shot and after three attempts I had to stop as my hands were getting too cold. Ten minutes later as I was coming down from the summit the sun came out!
A short walk across the fields today – with Spring finally showing.

I have some new gear for this trip, a smaller (lighter) sleeping bag and sleeping mat which means my 50l Golite Jam backpack is now not full when I pack it for just an overnight walk. See my current overnight backpacking kit list here.

The weather forecast was showing a freezing night – and it was.

The cold weather gave a great sunrise and it did not last long – it was getting warmer by the time I had my second coffee of the morning. The new down sleeping bag kept me warmer than the one I was using last year and the Alpkit mat is very comfortable.

With the unseasonal Easter weather I had to postpone this weekend’s backpacking trip – I am not equipped for such sustained cold weather when backpacking. I did get out for a day walking today – across the fields near where I live, but using some paths I had not used before.
One of the paths ran in the hedgerow.
I found somewhere out of the cold wind for lunch.
We spent the day walking around Sheffield city centre looking for good photo opportunities.

Richard, Richard and I had plans this weekend to go camping and walking in the Lake District, but it looks like the weather will change the plans. Snow and freezing nights.
I was sorting through my photographs this evening and found a shot of Stickle Tarn that I could not post from my iPhone as the file size was too big.
