Walking – River Witham

I could not get out yesterday, when it was sunny because of work and today it is overcast!

I took my usual route out of Branston, through Washingborough and out onto the Sustrans path along the River Witham. It was definitely not a spring day walk, it was overcast with a cold wind, which was a good test for my new coat, a drab olive M65 jacket but when I stopped I wish I had not taken the liner out and left it at home. Whilst walking though the jacket was comfortable and wind proof.

The jacket has a concealed hood in the collar but I was sceptical whether it was very waterproof so before using the coat I proofed it with some Nikwax Cotton Proof. It is never going to be completely waterproof but hopefully I have improved the water resistance.

The chest pockets were useful for my phone and iPod and secure well with metal press studs. The lower pockets also fasten down with studs and are a useful size. However I do miss a secure inside pocket.

I really needed the foil windshield when I made my coffee, as the wind was strong and there was no shelter for the stove. The wind proof lighter was essential.

Walking – Easter Bank Holiday

Work conspired to stop me camping this weekend – but the weather has not been great so not camping is not so bad.

Walking in Lincolnshire

This morning I took the MX-5 and headed out towards Stickney avoiding any main roads. There is a good place to park in Stickney that leads into a network of footpaths across the fields and passes some interesting sights!

I did not see anyone else on these paths so I felt confident I would not be disturbed if I set up and sat on one of the stiles for my mid morning coffee break.

The view at lunchtime - walking in Lincolnshire

After several more miles of walking in very poor light for photographs I found a good place to stop for lunch. For a change lunch was a small tin of vegetarian sausages in spaghetti in tomato sauce, crackers, banana and tea. When cooking in my titanium mug, it does not matter how much I stir the food, it always sticks. But it was worth it to have something different for lunch and it does not take much work with a scouring spong to clean the mug afterwards.

Although it was not sunny, I did drive home with the hood down!
