This morning
I have an early start – to get breakfast at the uni before the conference.
I am back in Edinburgh for a University Event and to attend a Cybersecurity conference.
I am off to London this week, to meet with a supplier for one of our clients, so I needed to work today.
We need a network diagram for a meeting later this week, so our client can easily understand their network. The final version of this diagram includes; IP addresses, firewall specifications, security arrangements etc, things I would never share on social media. The final document is also stored in encrypted storage.

I gave our Technology without Tears presentation tonight at the Positive Networking meeting in Peterborough. It was a great group to work with. There were challenging and engaging questions from them and a number made contributions that helped me get my points across.
Special mention has to go to Paul Wilson who was prepared to be the “guinea pig” as part of my presentation.
As part of “World Password Day” I was asked to write a guest blog for Stonemoor Business Services, which was published yesterday.
You can check whether your digital life is secure – read the article here:

The local Chamber of Commerce repeated an Octagon Technology article about business computer security – following the emergence on the internet of a new malware threat.

It has been a busy Friday atOctagon Technology, Martin has been out at Horncastle and Louth and the company has done several jobs in Lincoln. I have been to Newark, where the PC was d.o.a., but fortunately the client had taken up our advice and had their data stored locally on a NAS drive and then backed up to Octagon’s UK based secure offsite servers. This made it a stress free repair job for both the client and myself.
I had two telephone conferences with contract clients both of which broadly covered the same topic – about how they should use and protect their internet domain names.
I sketched out a firewall and Internet usage filtering solution for another contract client, so that they can control what sites and services are accessed using the company internet. They now need it written up so the board can approve the solution – I’ll do that on Monday.
The final job today was sorting some issues out on a Mac.
