Falmouth

Once Jeremy was up we decided to spend a wet day in Truro, however the car parks were full – so we we t to Falmouth.

We found an excellent old fashioned department store, to shelter in whilst the rain was at its heaviest. Trago stocked everything, it had electric guitars, to kitchen stuff, furniture to shower stalls, to Christmas stuff to cosmetics – it really defies description. We bought some drysacks for backpacking, some beakers with snap on lids that fit neatly inside our Ti mugs and a small zippered pouch for tea bags, sugar etc.

With the day getting darker and wetter we decided to go back to the campsite for a triple bill of DVDs.

Another Cornish Sunset

Another Cornish sunset from the Camping and Caravan Club site at Veryan – and another picture of my tent.

It is now a very nice evening, it is dark, and there is no wind and it is not cold either. We are sitting outside having made some hot drinks, Jeremy is reading and I am blogging with a candle for extra light.

Diana is out this evening at Business Club promoting Octagon’s Disaster Recovery Seminar whilst we watch the sunset.

Helston

Plenty of autumn colours and a brooding sky.

Seven swans a-swimming – and before the comments are made, I know it is a duck, look over the wall!

We decide to get lunch in a cafe as the weather was showery, I had a “half” Full English and Jeremy had a pasty – I think they must have much bigger plates for the “full” breakfast. Next time I’ll order the soup with half a sandwich.

Camping in Cornwall

Today is the first day of Jeremy’s and my annual Autumn Half-term camping trip to Veryan Campsite in Cornwall.

We travelled down overnight to arrive in St Austell for breakfast. It was cold but sunny but by the time we came to walk around the town it had started to warm up.

St Austell

The campsite is quite near the coast – so when we came to put the tents up the wind had picked up a bit – but the sun was out and it was still warm!

Rather than bringing our two-person tent, we are using two one-man tents as practice for a backpacking trip we are planning for next summer. This has meant reorganising the menu to being mainly “add boiling water”, backpacking food as we have limited indoor space to cook in. In addition we are storing the food and cooking gear in the car rather than in the tent.

As it gets dark early in October (and even earlier this year as the clocks change tomorrow) we bring a small laptop PC with us which we watch DVDs on, whilst sitting in the back of the car – so not having the two-person tent living area is not such an issue in the evening.
