The Camping and Caravan Club site just outside Dunbar is in an excellent location over looking the Forth of Firth, Dunbar and Bass Rock. It is near the A1 so occasionally you can here the traffic but more likely you can hear the surf on the beach, a few hundred meters away. It can be very windy here in bad weather but on an afternoon like this with the sun and a slight breeze it is great. Tea just outside our tent with the view below.

I took a few days off from work this week to try out some of my light weight kit – which eventually will make up the kit I will use on future backpacking trips.
Although I had the car I limited what I took. It gave me a chance to try the tent, food ideas and stoves I plan to use. I probably will not be carrying the folding stool on my backpacking trips.
The tent is a bit heavy for backpacking – but at £17.50 in a sale the price was right. It weighed 2.5kgs but by changing the steel pegs with titanium ones and not using the stuff sacks the weight drops to under 2kgs. It is also large enough for two (at a squeeze with rucksacks) but for one it gives that extra bit of space and comfort. I can sit up in it and cook outside the door easily or look at view whilst drinking tea. The window panels in the fly sheet doors adds some weight but this allows you to look out at the view even when it is raining!
I camped at the Camping and Caravan Club site on the outskirts of Scarborough. It is well placed so I could just walk out to the cliff top footpath, without having to use the car.

Whilst I was away I tried out both the Camera+ app and the built in camera app. The Camera+ has lots of options and other “good things” for making creative images, editing, sorting etc. The built in camera is much simpler but it does have an HDR setting dessigned to deliver better quality images. I set the camera to save both the composite HDR image and the “standard” image for comparison. I was very pleased with the results especially in very difficult lighting.

River Ness – iPhone 4 photo cropped but no other processing. I used the Camera+ app (here) rater than the built in camera. The Camera+ offers lots of features but one of the best is the way it holds the images on the “Lightbox” and from there you choose to save or delete them – it is a good way of getting rid of the rubbish shots before committing them to the iPhone Camera Roll.
However the quality of this image is not as good as I would have hoped for (I did check out online examples of iPhone 4 photos before buting the phone) – so I will try the built in camera for the next shots.
