Study Day

University of Lincoln Central Library

The plan today is to work all day here at the University of Lincoln library.

Although I am a student at Edinburgh Napier, I have been able to register here in Lincoln, to use the university library – this gives me an opportunity to get on with my studies. The third floor is the “silent” floor – not just because it was empty – more students did come along later. I expect as the term progresses it will get busier.

Charging the #mysteryphone @BBCRadioLincs @OctagonT

I was on the mystery phone, on the William Wright show today, on BBC Radio Lincolnshire talking about IT support, cybercrime and backups for business.

Just before William called me he spoke about how the phone has been out and about for several months and is accompanied by business cards and a charger. So I thought as Octagon is an IT company I’d better charge the phone before passing it on.

Down by the river and cyber crime @OctagonT

One of our clients has their down by the River Witham in Lincoln.

Down by the river

I was there carrying out a review of their data storage and backup plan. It is always worth questioning if your company data is being stored and backed up correctly – it is an essential task, with the threat of cyber crime at an all time high.

IT Support today @OctagonT

IT Support today @OctagonT

No coffee and no meetings today – I am on IT Support duties helping out, Martin, Connor and Alex.

This particular machine was infected by a RansomWare virus – not a huge issue for us to sort out for the client as they; contacted us the moment it happened, they followed our emergency plan and they have an Octagon managed backup with an excellent retention plan.

Today I am simply wiping the computer and rebuilding it.
