Jonathan has posted an article last week about his helpful bank making charges on charity donations. Have a look at:

Earlier this week Richard and I gave an illustrated talk to the Misterton Ladies Group about our walk along the West Highland Way. This was the second time we had given a presentation to them, last year we talked about our experiences on Wainwright’s Coast to Coast.
We were made very welcome, which included tea and cakes – and we must have entertained them as we have been invited back next year to talk about backpacking.

I am a great fan of podcasts stories and each week a I sync my favourites to my iPhone so I can listen to them whilst travelling between jobs. When walking I use my iPod, synced with the same podcasts and extra audiobooks.
I follow Tony Smith’s Sci-Fi podcast and this week for the third year in a row, his Starship Sofa has been nominated for a Hugo Award (a pretigous, international Sci-Fi award).
StarShipSofa No 233 Gwyneth Jones | StarShipSofa.
This show is particularly good – it has an excellent article by Amy H. Sturgis about English author Samuel Youd, he wrote The Death of Grass and The Tripods. The show also includes the story “Vicar of Mars” by Gwyneth Jones – this is a story that includes aliens and spaceships, what else do you need!
I have listened to several other really good podcasts this week.
BBC News – Scott’s Antarctic diet: Stewed penguin and champagne.
The BBC have an interesting article about Scott’s expedition to the South Pole examining the food they ate.
I do not walk in such extreme conditions as they did – but getting the menu right on even a short trip will add to the enjoyment of the walk. One thing my son and I have been discussing for our planned Southern Upland Way walk is carrying/buying on route some fresh fruit – so we are now exploring other people’s blogs for their experiences on the walk, to see what they did.

Last night I watched Orbit on the BBC – in which they flew a set of digital cameras up to the edge of space using a helium balloon. A much better use of this technology, of course, is to fly a Lego space shuttle to the edge of space!
Jeremy thinks this is much more impressive.
It is a late night tonight as I am staying up to watch the American Football Super Bowl.
The game came complete with Madonna’s extravagant halftime show.
