The Branston Players revived a village. tradition today, by performing a public Plough Play.
about fifty people turned out to see this show
A Plough Play was traditionally performed by agricultural workers, especially across Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire. They were based on a similar story but with each village having their own version. The one performed here today included a fool, the King of Egypt, a doctor with a dubious bedside manner and a recruiting sergeant among others. The story was told with songs and poetry – and featured at the end a song from the last time the play was put on in Branston in 1967.
The sun even came out for a few minutes during the performance.
Diana and I thought it was good and were pleased we went to see it.
