Newport Arch Lincoln
Newport Arch is one of the few remaining ancient Roman arches in the world that traffic still uses. Although that is not without some risk:
I wanted an image of the arch without vehicles – even if you time your shot between the passing cars there are often cars parked in front of the church. I got there early to try and avoid the parked cars but the problem then was to position myself to reduce the glare from the morning sun coming right into my lens (top left corner).
When I got frame I was happy with I then converted it to black and white as the yellow lines on the road were very prominent in the colour shot. I wonder if someone would park there even if there were no yellow lines?
When relations or friends come to visit this is one of the sights I always show them. Newport Arch as stood here for more than 1800 years and has had the history of Lincoln and England sweep past it.
